2010年迎美活动暨第四届姊妹院校文化交流节征文评选工作已圆满结束。通过这次征文活动，不仅锻炼了涉外学生的写作能力，更激发了07，08级学生的写作热情。这10篇获奖征文字里行间充满了中美人民的深情厚谊，赞美了两个姊妹院校师生间的文化交流成果，必将会对两院校进一步开展交流与合作产生积极的影响。这10篇获奖征文立题新颖，句意通顺，内涵深刻，很值得大家一读。

    为进一步鼓励获奖学生写出更好的作品，影响提升涉外学生对写作的信心，学校决定对这10名获奖学生给予通报表彰，同时决定将这10篇征文登载于校园网上，以便中美学生阅读。

 

Title: An American Acupuncture Girl

    Well, I was very honored to be selected to take part in this“Welcome Americans ”activity. During those days , it left me a lot of unforgettable memories, because I made a good American friend. Her name was Shaylona Holliday. She always helped me improve my English, pointing out many mistakes when I had a chat with her .And what is more , she was very friendly to everyone of us .

    I still remembered the day when we visited Jiamusi TCM Hospital .It was a newly –built modernized hospital. When we arrived at the hospital, we were met by the director of the hospital , who is a neurologist and other senior doctors. The foreign students were taken to see the acupuncture and massage departments in the hospital .Seeing a lot of patients in the ward made the foreign students surprised. They never thought the Chinese Medicine was so popular .At that time , my friend Shaylona holliday was curious to ask me why the needles were stuck on the patient’s head .I explained that this was a treatment to split headache .And then she told me Splitting headache ”also called ‘migraine” .Meanwhile she wanted to try it herself. she said sometimes she suffered from headache .I asked the doctor if there was a danger to her . The doctor assured me , and then putting a needle on her head. She felt a little nervous at first and I told her not to be scared of it .After 20 minutes .she felt comfortable and good , and said that the Chinese acupuncture was so mysterious ,and if she had a chance to come over to China again ,she would start to learn it.

     Next, we visited the message department .I told her massage could relax the tired muscles .They became interested in it. They were taking turns to get massaged. I found everybody feeling relieved from their busy trip .After visiting CTM Hospital ,they all said that after going back home they would tell their families and friends how miraculous the Chinese Traditional Medicine was ,we took a picture together in front of the hospital , to let them memorize CTM forever .

    From this activity , I have learned a lot of knowledge which could not be learnt in the class ,I really enjoyed this activity that has improves not only my oral English but also social knowledge .

My American friend , Shaylona Halliday left us a week ago , but I still remembered her smile face and her brave character . I thought if I were her , I would not dare to try the “needles ” in other strange county. I will never forget this “ American acupuncture girl ’’whose spirit of courage will inspire me to overcome any difficulties in the front of me .

         

 

 

 

题目：美好的回忆  

Beautiful Recalling

     In light and warm May , I am sitting beside the widow alone thinking about something cheerful . I do believe that the experience is the treasure of my memory in my life , even though the time we stayed together was very short .

    Frankly speaking , up to now , I haven't got used to the life without him .We got to know each other during the "Greeting Americans" activity .And to be more specific ,every May the students and teachers from Weber State University come to our school because we are sister college .I was lucky enough to be selected as an interpreter for them .Also it was the first time for me to attend this activity as a sophomore .I really enjoyed myself and learnt a lot indeed.

You can not imagine how surprised I was when I met my partner Douglas at the airport for the first time .He was quite tall ,almost  two meters high .At the first sight , he looked a little bit dull. You know ,no matter what I said he always said "pardon?",so I felt very terrible .I began to wonder whether my English was too poor or something was wrong with his ears .But during the following days ,I found that was not the case .I learnt that he was a Rocket Scientist and he had been working on this field for more than 36 years . I admires him highly . Also, considering his appearance he didn't seem that old .

    We almost stayed together for 5 days .We ate together ,went shopping together and played games together.We also visited the TCM hospital where we got massage and acupuncture .All kinds of interesting things made me excited .

    In the following days , his "pardon"was heard less and less and his speaking speed was also slower and slower . Well , for instance, even if he tried speak slowly I sometimes still felt confused, so he had to repeat again and again . He was interested in Chinese culture and when you told him something about it , he would feel very excited and also had lots of questions to ask .I tried my best to cater him something more with my little English .

    Sitting beside the window , I began recalling the beautiful moment we were together ; recalling the moment when I was in embarrassment and didn't understand what he said .Recalling the moment when he gave me his clothes in that raining day ; recalling the moment when he began learn to speak Chinese ;recalling the moment when he pointed out my weakness in spoken English and taught me how to improve my oral English ; recalling the moment wen he encouraged me to study hard and wanted me to go to his country to further my study .

    We exchanged our e-mail addresses and promised to contact each other by it . This activity is really meaningful and useful to me ,and leaving me so many beautiful things to recall !

               A Smiling American Friend-Jordan

    Firstly,I want to say "thank you!" to my teachers,who gave me the opportunity to take part in this "Welcome American" activity. I would never forget the date of May 8^th ,2010 when the American friends from Weber State University ,USA arrived in Jiamusi.I felt very worried on the way to the airport, For I didn't know whether I could communicate with foreign friends with my poor English .I really had no confident at all at that time .

     At the airport ,I wondered about what my foreign friend looked like .I know nothing about him except for his name called Jordan the same name with famous NBA player. I thought it must be a boy before she come to me .To my surprise Jordan was a beautiful and outgoing girl . After getting along with her just for a while ,we soon got to know each and could communicate in simple English . The first impression was very important . We ate the first meal together at Jingyi restaurant . I found the foreigners were very polite toward whatever you did for them by saying "thank you "with a smile to you even for tiny things . They had good table manners . When the ate some food with bones , they wouldn't put them on then table , instead , putting them on their own plates . The men were polite , too. They would always let you go first . They had gentleman manners . Whenever they spoke , they all wore smiles on their faces .So I got to know a truth : Smiling is an international language in a strange never met .I'm very outgoing .So I always kept talking with others, taking photos and playing games with others and so on. Sometimes I forgot my Jordan. When I realized this I felt very sorry to her . To my surprise , she did not complain with me and still smiled to me said "Take it easy ,you can go , I'm OK ." I felt a bit guilty ,It’s not right to leave my friend along ,That was my duty to look after her .

   On may 12^th ,we had to say goodbye to each other ,we both couldn't  help crying .Maybe some people couldn't  understand that how we could become heart-felt friends within three and a half days ,I knew as a sophomore I had a lot of troubles in communicating with foreigners. Because this activity, I have a very strong desire to study English well , at least I can comfortably talk with my foreign friends . Now I will keep in touch with her by sending E-mails .Her smiling face is always surfacing in my mind .

 

            

 

The Respected Old Man - Mr. P. C.

   It's my great honor to be an interpreter for this " Greeting Americans " activity .

   Before our foreign friends came to our college , I felt very nervous . I wondered if I could chat with them freely . Although we had taken a week training , I still doubted my English competency .

   On May 8^th , our American guests from Weber State University arrived at JMS airport . All the students were excited to meet their partners , talking , embracing just like brothers and sisters . But I felt a bit disappointed , because my partner was an old Chinese American . Most of time he spoke Chinese with me . I thought I could not have as much time to practice my oral English as other students did . My thought had been changed in the following days . My foreign partner called Mr. P. C. who was not an American by birth , he was a Chinese- American . I got to know more about him gradually . The more I knew him, the more I respected him .

   I have heard that it's him who contributed much to establishing the Sister College between HLCHP and DCHP . He promoted our teachers to study in Weber State University and even let them live in his home . He is working hard in organizing the delegation of Weber State University to visit our college every May , for the aim to improve our oral English . He is regarded as an ambassador for the friendships between the two sister colleges .

   I found he was really a kind man , whenever he had time , he would teach me some tips on how to learn English well . I learnt a lot from him . He said that I was just like his daughter . We really got along well with each other .

   On May 12^th , they had to leave JMS for Harbin . I was lucky to accompany them as far as to Harbin . We did not want to say goodbye to each other , but we had to . During those days , we had built up the deep friendship . He left us a week ago , but this respected old man like my father whom I still remembered . I told him that no matter how far it is between he and I , we can become lasting friends . What he has done for me and for our college will be remembered forever !

 

 

 

  

题目：一次难忘的经历  

                     

An Unforgettable Experience

   In this May , our American friends from Weber State University made their fourth visit to our college . It's my great honor to be a translator for them .

   Upon their arriving , we went to the airport to greet them . My partner was a professor called Bob who had been to our city for four times. I guess he might know much more about our college than me . He might be very picky . Thinking about this , I felt a bit nervous . But when I met him , I found that he was very kind and easy to get along with . After introducing to each other and we began our communications.

   The following day, a magnificent welcome ceremony was held in our campus . The school band played  wonderful music . All the students were wearing nurse clothes , standing regularly on the school play-ground . Balloons and pigeons were flying in the sky . You can't imagine how beautiful the scene was . This had been the greatest ceremony ever held by our college .

   During those days , we went to some interesting places , such as the temple and Shuiyuanshan Park and so on . We really enjoyed ourselves indeed . But the most meaningful activity was the community health care service where our American friends took the blood pressure for the passerby . Although it was raining that day , their high working attitudes was not affected .They still kept on giving service to the people . The scene made me move deeply.

   In the last day , we sent off our friends as far as to Harbin by bus . We talked on the way . When we saw some signs in English outside the bus , he would let me read it first . If I made any mistakes , he would correct it for me . He was very patient and taught me again and again .

   The time of departing finally arrived , we were too sad to burst into tears . Although five days were too short for us , it was a good opportunity for us to share experiences and happiness . I learned a lot from this activity . I think this experience will play an important role in my life and I will never forget it .

My dream

     The foreign student from Weber State University visited us a week ago . During these days .we had a happy time together . In addition ,  this experience will be remembered forever for me .

    On the first day of May 8^th .I was feeling excited when I got first sight of my American friend .  Jeremy Hernanderz, after introducing to each other .  Jereny began to tell me something about his country and the cultural differences between China and USA .For example , when we visited Foguang Temple and talked about the religions .He told me he believed in God but did not celebrate any festivals including Christmas . I was really shocked at it .In my opinion ,the Christmas just like Spring Festival in China ,which is celebrated by all western people .During these days we visited Shuiyuanshan Park . New Market and one thing impressed me most was that the medical serves in a wet day .But the bad weather did not interfere us from doing it .The foreign friend still kept a high attitude to give health check to the citizens Every foreign student was very serious in measuring the blood in the rain .I was really moved by their working spirit . Jeremy told me that many people in his country choose to study nursing subject ,because nurse is a good career in the USA ,so I am feeling very lucky to have chosen the foreign nursing program .Until that time I came to understand why our president Sun often says to us : choosing the Foreign Nursing Program means choosing bright future”. Time passed so quickly ,It was on May 13^th we had to say goodbye to my American friend .Besides my oral English ,I know that nursing market in the world is potential .As long as I keep studying harder than before .I can not doubt to fulfill my dream of becoming an international nurse some day.

I Want Traveling

   Traveling, it is a beautiful word which is liked by most people in the world. People usually say that traveling can not only relax themselves, but also enrich their experiences. I was so happy that I had the chance to be an interpreter in this “Greeting Americans” activity. Our college and Weber State University are sister schools. Every year, there are some teachers and students from Weber State University who have a chance to come to our college and exchange different cultures.

    During their visiting, as an interpreter, I went with them to some places to gather. And I learned a lot of things. I was most impressed by the lectures which were given by professors from both two colleges. Where I learnt some knowledge on medicine. I also learnt how the patients were taken care of in American. In American hospitals, the situation is very strictly stipulated. They were also taken to see the Traditional Chinese Medicine hospital to experience the acupuncture and massage. We also learnt how to massage to treat different kinds of diseases. At that time, the foreign student showed great interest in asking doctors some questions about traditional Chinese medicine.

     Next day, we did morning exercise in Songhua River Park. We visited Confucius Statue; Confucius thinking is popular in the US. And so far there are 61 Confucius schools which have been set up. Confucius encouraged his pupils to get more traveling while learning. I knew traveling is the  food to the health and broadening people’s knowledge. I am sure, in the future, our country will be richer, everyone can afford to go traveling, even traveling abroad. So I must study hard to realize my traveling dream.

     I know, English is the key to my career dream. If I become an international nurse, then I can travel a lot like American friends do now.

 

 

题目： 充满希望的五月  

May –A Month of Hope

    May is the most beautiful time of a year .May is also the special month for our college –Heilongjiang Linye college of Health Professions, because in every May , we greet our friends from Weber State University ,USA . I can say May is belonging to the students of America and China , so is to our two sister colleges.

   We meet each other in May ; we sing and dance on the same stage in May ;we do community health care together in May ;we exchange study experiences in May.

     You might have noticed that there is a bit change in this May’s activity ,Greeting Americans has been changed the 4^th Cultural Exchange Festival between DCHP and HLCHP .So in the future May is becoming a festival for both of the colleges to celebrated since it is called ‘Cultural Exchange Festival ”we should spend our festival in a cultural way .That is meant that May will be the month with full of activities .More cultural exchanges will take place in the future festivals between the two sister colleges.

    I like May ,I enjoy May ,not only because I can be a student interpreter to get my oral English polished ,but also I can make more American friends .Thanks to May that has made me realize my career dream – a dream of becoming an international nurse.

    While we enjoy the May , we never forget the two important people who have made the May helpful and meaningful to us –President Sun and Dean Yas.

Dancing-A Bridge of Communication

   I am from Heilongjiang Linye college of health Professions . my major is foreign nursing .Last week our school hold a cultural Festival to host the American friends from University in the US .And I was very happy to be chosen as an interpreter for them .

   Foreign friends stayed in Jiamusi for 4 days . In these days , the students from both colleges had a good time together .I thought it was a very good chance to practice our oral English and to know lots of things about America as well.

   My partner is a tall boy and named Nicholos Roy Nash. He was very funny .In these days through communication. I knew lots of things about  him . He likes sports so much and good at all kinds of ball sports  , like basketball ,soccer pingpang and so on . And he likes listening to rock music crazily .He is an excellent photographer too, we got along well with each other .

   Our school also arranged lots of activities for foreign friends , such as visiting the ShuiYuanshan Park and the temple ,community Healthcare services, evening party,      visiting the Chinese Medical Hospital ect .

    But for me , one of my favorite activity was the Evening Gala ,well I love dancing very much , so in that Evening Party I performed two dancing . One is ‘Nobody’ it is a modern dancing which is very popular now .  we danced with our teacher together .Another is ‘dream to Tang Density ’ the program was really special ,representing the rich Chinese history .the foreign friends appreciated my dancing with long applause . In addition ,the foreign students also danced for us .I felt so happy ,besides English language I could also use dancing to community with them the foreign students also danced for us Jeremy –the foreign friend danced Michael Jackson’s work . He danced so well that I really thought as if Michael Jackson were on the stage at night . The whole evening Gala was really wonderful and everybody enjoyed it .

    During this activity I really learnt lots of things and made a good relationship with the Weber State University ’students . I believe that our friendship will be lasting forever.

          Welcome Students from Weber State University

   Everyone has their own special experience and each of them is different, so do I . Each experience is an important memory in my life .

    I had passed two tests and interviews before I become a translator for the students and teachers of Weber State University. I felt very lucky and proud .Then we had one-week collective training, preparing for the "Greeting Americans activity”.

    On May 8^th  ,  the students and teachers from Weber State University of USA arrived in Jiamusi city .I felt a bit nervous at that time .When they came out of the airport .I saw a boy going towards me and I knew he would he my partner . During following days ,I got to know Taylor was very well. We talked a lot with each other . I know that he was a outgoing cut boy .

We went to Shuiyuan mountain park, Fuoguang temple and we talked a lot there . Also we went to do communing health care serious in the downtown .Unfortunately it was raining on that day . Even though some citizens came over for a enquiring and got medical service . If that day had been no rain ,there would have been more medical takers .Happy time always past quickly ,four days later they had go to Harbin city . We hated to say goodbye at that time .

    In a word , I was very happy during those days .I learnt a lot from them. They were always friendly and behaved politely .Through this activity , I have come to know that my English was not good enough on both learning and speaking .

    I have to study harder than before ,to fulfill my dream of going abroad . I have a long way to go . I'm confident enough to meet any difficulties in the future . No one can stop me from chasing my dream.
